1st Annual Conference of the Movement Disorders Society of India
MDSICON-2016 was held in Chennai

The First annual conference of the Movement Disorders Society of India (MDSICON 2016) was held in Chennai from the 8th to the10th of January, 2016. The conference was organised by the 'Neuro Update ' trust, Chennai in association with the Tamilnadu Association of Neurologists. Prof C.U.Velmurugendran was the organising chairman and Prof U.Meenakshisundaram was the organising secretary for MDSICON 2016.  The venue of the conference was the Leela Palace Hotel, Chennai.

There was a CME on Day 1 on the theme 'Movement Disorders for the practicing neurologist', the programme for which was drawn by the scientific committee within the local organising committee. The conference programme on Days 2 and 3 were drawn by the MDSI scientific committee. There was also a botulinum toxin workshop on cervical dystonia which included live demonstration on two such patients.

The 1st MDSICON was inaugurated by His Excellency the Governor of Tamilnadu Dr K.Rosaiah on the first day of the conference, who in his inaugural address stressed on the genetic advances in movement disorders and nonmotor symptoms of PD.

The conference was a resounding success, with a total of 524 registrations. All the sessions were well received and well-attended. There were 4 International faculty and 35 national faculty for this conference.

The highlight of the conference was 'Video Akhada ', a competition between two 4-member teams in discussing and diagnosing patients presented by 8 participants.

A short docufiction film on PD called 'Purindhunarvu' (made in Tamil with English and Hindi subtitles) was released to mark this historic occasion of the 1st MDSICON.
