President Speaks

Dear Colleagues,

I feel proud and honoured to express my thoughts as the President of the Movement Disorders Society of India.

Following its inception in 2014 the society has grown leaps and bounds gaining a prestigious position in the field of movement disorders not only in India but internationally. The credit goes to the members of the society. They all have contributed in the form of publications and presentations covering clinical, genetics, treatments and epidemiological aspects of movement disorders in our country. The outcome of this development is evident as more and more younger neurologists have chosen movement disorders as their speciality of interest. Social media platforms are helping us to interact on interesting cases and concepts in the field. Our own Annals of Movement Disorders has been publishing high standard papers from India and abroad. The society congratulates the editorial board of the AOMD for their consistent efforts.

The recently concluded 7th MDSICON and the 8th AOPMC meetings in Kolkata in March 2023 established the capability of the society in conducting international conferences.

It is enlightening to see that many of our members have taken up official responsibilities in the International Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Society. I am hopeful that more members will join this international platform and make us proud.

Welcome all of you to the MDSICON-2024 to be held in Ahmedabad in February 2024.

Dr. Gurusidheshwar M. Wali

Secretary Speaks

Dear Friends,

With a profound sense of gratitude, I would like to extend warm greetings to every one of you for your support to the growth and activities of MDSI.

Since its inception in 2014, Movement disorders society of India (MDSI) has been contributing remarkably in popularizing the subspecialty of Movement Disorders in the country. The credit of the success story goes to the unique vision of the founding members, unrelenting efforts of office bearers and active participation of all members.

In keeping up with times during the pandemic, MDSI has put more focus on virtual activities in last one year and it has turned out to be highly popular.

While we look back with satisfaction on different achievements of MDSI, we must not forget that there is more room to work on and much more to build upon. We need to make MDSI a more profound voice at international platforms; we also need to focus on promoting world class clinical services and research facilities, especially translational research. MDSI is already in the path of encouraging youngsters ranging from neurologists to basic science fellows to take up this wonderful sub- speciality as a career choice.

We are presently offering some varied grants for travel, thesis, etc. But we need to develop robust fellowship programs in India so that the aspirants don’t have to look for overseas training all the time. We have the potential to become hub of Movement Disorders in South Asia or even Asia -Oceanian region.

All these can become a reality when everyone of you participates in your own way in the growth of the subspecialty – this is your society and secretariat is here to promote your initiatives. I also appeal to those who are not yet member to become member and join the force in this exciting journey.

With affectionate regards

Dr. Hrisihikesh Kumar
